Stash report

This week is a bit better than past weeks. I did some sewing and also bought some fabric. I am making totes for the gals at work as they leave the department. I have 4 almost done and I bought fabric for one special tote. The gal who sat next to me in the other bldg likes purple and yellow and I found some awesome yellows and purples at JoAnn's on Saturday and they came home with me!!

The weekend wrap up

Jennifer came over Friday night and we worked together on my totes for work. I sewed and she ironed. We were able to get four bases done. Saturday afternoon I did all the machine quilting on the bags and sewed them together. Today I added the binding and handles to the bags. I have one more bag to bind and add the handles to. I was hoping to get started on the shower curtain but I worked on straightening the sewing room. I moved some boxes to the unfinished area of the basement. I have some fabric to press and cut for more bags and I still need to uncover the cutting table. Lately, I have been cutting on the computer table. It works but it would be nice to have the computer table for other things. I also want to put up a few more quilts on the walls down here.

I am going to start another new project. I know that it is a crazy thing to do but I need a something to hand stitch while I am at the guild meeting and our small quilt group meeting. I found this panel and I am going to quickly machine quilt it tonight and put to the binding. Then tomorrow I stitch down the binding.

Tomorrow after work I am going to stop at the local store that sells Bernina Sewing Machines and get some new bobbins. I have to admit that my Bernina came with 6 bobbins when I bought my machine oh so many years ago. Up until Friday night I could show you all 6 of the bobbins, but I lost one while I was sewing. I think it is in the bag with my flannel scraps. When I finish sewing the pieces for the backing I am hopeful that I will find my missing bobbin. That is why I am going to and buy some extra bobbins.

This weekend one of the local radio stations has started playing Christmas music. I am hooked!! I have been listening to it on and off all weekend and I have turned my sister on to it also. I will probably listen to it all the time until Christmas. I know, I am crazy!!

Here comes the weekend!!

It's Friday and the weekend is here!! Are you sewing this weekend? I know I am! It is supposed to be cooler outside and I need to be in my well insulated {with fabric} sewing room. The flannel quilt is still calling my name as well as the shower curtain and I need a shopping bag/tote bag to carry my stuff back and forth to the new office. We have not seen the space and have no idea how much room we will have. I am also toying with idea of making these bags for some of the gals at work as they leave the department. One gal I know of is leaving on Wednesday. I would like to have several of these bags done to pass out as they leave. It is a handy size for shopping.

I spent my day yesterday working on the packing of my desk area. I have taken a crate and 3 bags of stuff to my car and this is what I still have to pack. I have a tote under my desk for the "important" stuff and this is the on the bubble stuff. I have until 4PM to make my final decisions.

Moving Preparations

We are moving yet again at work. It seems we move every couple of month anymore. This should be our last move as we are being outsourced in February, 2011. I am packing up my stuff yet again and putting it in my car. I will take only a few things with me to the new office space. I am getting a desk! Some of my co-workers will be going to a conference room. I am going back on the phones, which is where I started this journey almost 5 years ago. Today we are having a carry in and I made the Velveeta and chilis dip to serve over tortilla chips. It is easy and I started it last night. It is in my crock pot and in my refrigerator. I am watching what I eat and I will have a salad and a Lean Cuisine. And we are one floor away from the food. Good thing!!

No sewing done last night. I am working on the backing for my flannel quilt. It is scrappy. I am using all the pieces leftover from the front of the quilt. Pieced backs are so pretty but some times they are harder to put together than scrappy tops.

The wind aftermath

The weatherman was right!! We got the wind, the rain, the hail, the thunder, and the lightning!! Also the weather sirens went off. And we ended up spending part of the afternoon in the stairwell. How interesting. The weather has calmed down for now but it is noticeably cooler outside. We are all very lucky, escaping without any damage. At least we are not like my brother, who is out in Washington state where it is snowing and cold.

This is a picture of my knock out roses that are still blooming even though it is almost Halloween in south west Ohio.

Windy Tuesday

Here in my part of Ohio the weathermen always try to scare us with "white death" concerning snowstorms. Yesterday and today they are hyping "the wind of doom". We are expecting rain, high winds, and perhaps a tornado warning. A good thing we are in a drought or our trees could be uprooted! And please secure your Halloween decorations. And don't forget your power could go out. These seem to be things I have no control over. It will be interesting at work, I am on the fifth floor in front of plate glass windows and that is funky in windy weather.

I came home from my small quilting group last night and exercised for 20 minutes on my Gazelle and then I sewed the last two blocks on each row of my flannel quilt and then sewed four rows together. I have three more rows to add to this and then I can start on the piecing the back. I want to use up all the leftover pieces. Then I will layer it and start hand quilting it.

The next project on the drawing board is a new shower curtain. I went to JoAnn's after work last night and got two packages of grommets. The directions were very clear and I should have a new shower curtain by the end of the week. Yeah!!

Design Wall Monday

Here are two partial rows of my flannel quilt. There will be 7 rows total with 6 blocks in each row. This is the first four blocks. I did a little bit of sewing on this over the weekend.

Busy weekend

It was a very busy, but awesome weekend. Friday night Jennifer and I went to JoAnn Fabrics for some supplies. I got the thread I am going to quilt the flannel with and Jennifer got some backing fabric for a quilt she is working on. Jennifer worked on her Grandmother's Flower Garden and I worked on my flannel quilt.

Saturday, I spent most of the day with my sister, Patty and her kids, Vincent and Lily. We wernt to a local park, took a walk around the lake, had a picnic, and played on the gym equipment. I took lots of pictures.

Sunday, I took another walk at a different park with my mom and sister, Becky. We, also walked around the lake at that park. I also got my hair cut and purchased the fabric for my new shower curtain. I need to get the grommets for shower curtain and I need a new liner.

Stash Report

I had been so good. I have not been buying much fabric but today that changed. I decided I needed a new shower curtain for my bathroom. I went to Hancock Fabrics this morning and bought a little bit more than I needed for a shower curtain. My bedroom is mostly white and all the fixtures {tub, toliet, and sink} are turquoise. I found the perfect fabric for this project and will work on this during the upcoming week.

I have heat

My car is back from the mechanic and for under $200, I have heat!!! It is wonderful!! Winter is coming and now I am ready. Last year, all I had was lukewarm heat. I am very happy!! This is a picture from the shop hop where a car parked right next to us in a big open parking lot. My car is the Neon on the right.

I have joined sew scraps along. Button on side bar. I have posted 8 pictures on Flickr of my scrap quilts. I noticed that most of them are tops. After the holidays I will need to start finishing the tops.

Stash Report

When I started stash busting I would not subtract the fabric used until the project was completed. Now I wish I used a different system. I have been sewing and cutting all weekend but nothing is completed so nothing is being subtracted. I had to make a quick trip to JoAnn's this morning to get a yard of flannel for my flannel quilt. I also found a fabric that I "needed" and I brought home  1/2 yard of it. I also brought home a piece of Warm and Natural for my tote bags. Check here to see what is going at Patchwork Times.

Sunday sewing

I am finishing up the flannel top. I had to make an emergency run to JoAnn's this morning for more fabric to finish the flannel top. I only needed about a yard to finish. I have finished the blocks and they are squared up and ready to be put together. Tonight I will work on piecing the back from all the leftover pieces from the front. I also have some pieces I got from my sister {hi Karen} last weekend when I did the cutting for her flannel rag quilt. I really want to use up all the flannel in the sewing room.

Friday Night Sew In, Part Two

I am making a scrappy flannel quilt using some new flannels that are bright and cheery and some older flannels from several years back. I thought for sure that I would have gobs of the old stuff leftover, but not a chance. In fact, I am off to the fabric store tomorrow to see if I can find some flannel that looks old. I need about a yard and I am hoping to get several 1/4 yd pieces. The blocks that are finished are looking good. I am hoping to complete the rest of the blocks tomorrow and get the top together.

I also went out and enjoyed the fall afternoon. I went to the local park, took a walk, and took some pictures. Here are a few shots, but you can check out more shots at my other blog, MyPicturePicture. You will also find some pictures of the crane that was busily removing stuff from the roof of our building at work this morning. It was quite interesting.

Friday Night Sew In, Part One

I have been sewing all evening. I have to work in the morning, so I am going to bed very soon. Jennifer was not feeling well so she did not join me. I have been working on the flannel quilt. I am also working on the pieced back at the same time. After work tomorrow, I am hoping to get back to the sewing machine to finish the blocks.

I got to sew

The flannel quilt is coming along nicely. I did a little bit more on it tonight. I have my eye on my next quilt after I get the stuff done for Christmas. I have two quilts to make for Christmas. And one is a paid project. I was checking out other blogs last night and found several string quilts featured. Now that is my next project, after Christmas.

I am going to be seeing some of my family this weekend. I am joining my mom and two of my sisters for dinner on Sunday and I am hoping to catch up with my youngest sister this weekend to pick up quilt book from her. I purchased the book on the recent Shop Hop and she picked up for me. I am hoping to catch up with her on Saturday after I work a few hours of overtime.

Jennifer is coming over tomorrow for our regular sewing night. And of course it is the Friday Night Sew In. Check it out and see what everyone else will be working on!! I am going to work on the flannel quilt. I am piecing the back as well as the blocks on the front. I am hoping to make great progress with this project.

Wednesday stuff

It has been a very good Wednesday, only two more days until the weekend. No sewing was done today, but I did get my badges at Pogo, my other hobby. I made an appointment with my mechanic to see how much it is going to cost me to get the heat fixed in my car. Last year we jerry rigged it and it worked OK as long as you did not want bunches of heat. It had good heat if you were having hot flashes and I wasn't having hot flashes at all. Without having a job after February first, the new car is going bye bye and I need to fix the car that is paid for.

Friday night will be another Friday Night Sew In. Jennifer is joining me again for our regular Friday night of sewing. I am going to continue to work on my flannel quilt. I am also piecing the back. I am going to put it in the frame and hand quilt it with perle cotton using big running stitches. The frame will not go up until after Thanksgiving. I am having a houseful for the holiday and there is no room for both at this time.

It rained tonight. Thunder, lightning, wind, and rain. It sounds horrible and it lasted only about 20 minutes or so. And now my yard is littered with pretty leaves from the neighbor's trees. I have two ornamental pears in my front yard that will still have leaves on them at Thanksgiving and the huge Maple in the back will drop all of it's leaves after the city stops picking up leaves. None of my leaves change color, except from green to brown. None of the pretty colors that show up in the trees in my neighborhood. But I love my house and like the shade and I can get my color in other places.

Tuesday sew day

The flannel quilt is growing. I have almost finished another half round on all 42 blocks and have started sewing the remaining strips together for a pieced back. But I have been having some trouble with eye strain and it is tough for me to stop sewing when I am having so much fun. So I suppose I will get my jammies on and crawl under my flannel rag quilt and go to bed.

My son called tonight and I was his companion on his walk home from the office. We had a terrible connection and the call dropped about nine times and he called back every time. We were able to catch up on each other's lives and that was awesome. I miss my kids and cannot wait to see them at Thanksgiving! So far I have bought the raspberry chocolate chips for the Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Pie. I still need to get a few more things for the dinner, like a turkey.

Design Wall Monday

There is not much on my design wall. These are a few of the blocks from my flannel quilt. There was not much sewing done this weekend. My sister, Karen, was here on Saturday and I did a bunch of cutting for her. She is making a rag quilt for her daughter for Christmas and she owns a crappy rotary cutter. Go see what else is on every one else's design wall at Patchwork Times.

Not much to say about the stash report this week. I did not finish anything so I can't substract that from my stash. I did gift some fabric to my sister and she gifted me some fabric in return. I think I ended up with more gifts than she did.

Saturday with Karen

My sister, Karen, came and spent the day with me and we did all kinds of fun things. She is making a rag quilt and she has a crappy rotary cutter. She brought it with her and I checked it out and indeed it is crappy. I finished cutting flannel. I was able to take the leftovers for the backing of my flannel quilt. I am going to piece the backing. I will have lots of different fabrics for the back.

Next we ran up the street to Jungle Jim's to see our mom and drop off a few things for her. Then we went thru the drive thru at Mickey D's for her lunch. I am on a liquid diet so all I got to do was smell her lunch.

Then we went out to take pictures. We do the right, left, straight stragedy. We got some really cool shots. Check out My Picture Picture to see more of shots I got today.

And then back to my house to finish cutting flannel for her rag quilt and make a cape for a pumpkin for the pumpkin decorating contest at the hospital where she works. Now that is the first time I have ever made a costume for a pumpkin. My sister works in the kitchen at the hospital in Highland County and some times she serves food in the cafeteria. She likes to encourage people buy and eat the food. She calls the carrots "The amazing Orange Orbs of Energy". And her co-workers think that sounds like a super hero and a super hero needs a cape. I will let you know the contest goes.

Friday Night Wrap Up

Had a wonderful evening with Jennifer and we both got a lot accomplished. Jennifer finished this quilt for Addy. She also worked on her Grandmother's Flower Garden. She also did some pressing for me on my flannel quilt. I am hoping to get back to that tomorrow.

It's Friday

It is Friday and the weekend is upon us. I hope you have plans, I know I do. Tonight is sewing night here with Jennifer. I am working on my flannel quilt and I imagine Jennifer will be working on her Grandmother's flower garden. Tomorrow my sister, Karen {hi} is coming for the day. No definite plans yet. But we can always find something to get into, we always do. She did ask if I had some scraps of fabric, not big pieces. I think I can fulfill that request. Sunday will be more sewing and maybe taking a walk if the weather permits. I can always work straightening the sewing room. Sew many things to do, sew little time.

Picture Picture

Here is the pictures of the baby quilt as promised. I delivered it yesterday and every one is pleased with the finished product. I have an order for another quilt but not until after the first of the year. I have two quilts to finish for Christmas and one is for money.

No sewing yesterday. I was in bed before 8PM and slept straight thru until 5:30 this morning. I really needed the sleep. The doctor is still trying to get my meds right for the Lupus and I am not on anything and I am in pain. And the stress at work is awful. But life goes on.

Tonight I will add another round to my flannel quilt. I still have to trim round one on a few blocks. This will be my cuddle quilt for the basement unless someone wants to buy it before then.

Happy Tuesday

Last night was guild meeting and it is always so inspiring to see the talent that lives in our guild. And last night I had 3 pieces for show and tell. For me that is awesome. No pictures though. I went home and started my flannel quilt after the meeting. I would  have sewed longer but my eyes were starting to cross.

Fall is here and the air is starting to crisp up and the leaves are starting to change. And last night I broke down and turned on the heat. I set it low, just to take out the chill in the air. I hate turning on the heat. Next the time will change and it willl be dark all the time. I will live in the basement with my brightly colored stash. That will make me happy!!!

Tonight I am going  with Jennifer to hear Carol Kent speak. It should be very interesting and I am very excited to spend the evening with Jennifer. We were together at guild last night, but there was so much going on that we did not have muich time to visit.

Hey, it's called sewing

I have decided that I need to sew every day and that keeps me centered in this every changing world. Sadly I was out late last night and did not get to sew. But I am making good progress on my flannel quilt and I got another order for another quilt. This is a nice side business in a world that is so unstable. After I finish here, I am going to do a bit of work on the flannel quilt before going to work.

Work is interesting at best right now. Friday we were notified that effective 2/1/2011 we would not have jobs. But after some tears and lots of prays, I am moving on. I would like to stay until the end and collect my severance pay, but whatever the good Lord has planned for I am ready!!! I have been here for almost 5 years and was looking to leave there in my simple, quilt lined pine box but I see that is not possible so I let you know what the Lord has planned for me as soon as he decides.

It is Sunday night and the weekend is over. How much did you get done. It has been an interesting weekend. On Friday, we were told that effective 2/1/2011 we will not have jobs. That was a horrible way to start a weekend. I did get some quilting done and the baby quilt is done!! I got some cutting done for my flannel quilt and went to a quilt show today.
