Stash Report

I was so proud of myself. I am using restraint in the fabric store and using up my stash slowly in 2012. And a statement like that is always followed by a but statement. And my but statement is that last Monday I was gifted some fabric. Now I am all for gifting of fabric and it is a money saver for me.  And I am not stopping at the fabric store and buying more fabric to feed my stash. This week I was gifted 12 yards of fabric!! I had put my stash on a diet in 2012 and now people are feeding it for me! Guess I will have to get busy and sew, sew, sew!!

So far so good, 2012 is going well for me. I am trying not to buy fabric. I so much in my stash, that I should be able to construct several dozen quilts without buying much fabric at all.

Yet another week has passed and it is time for the Stash Report. I am in a no buy fabric mode but will take donations or gifts. This week I got a gift. I have the co-ordinating fabrics picked from the stash and have the pattern picked out and loaded into EQ7. It will take it's place in line after the UFO #6 at Patchwork Times.

So far so good for 2011! I have been staying out of quilt and fabric stores and shopping from the stash. And it is working. Of course some of the fabrics have dates on them. Millenium fabric is 11 years old now and the that odd blue fabric that I cut up into strips had a date of 1992 in the selvage is now 19 years old. But it still works. I am not counting the fabric that I was prepping for other projects in my stash report because it is not a finished project just a pile of fabric.

Christmas sewing has the honors this week. I had to buy some yardage for the overlay for the big red square, but did use some to finish up a project. It did not even out but that happens. But this week I am in the black!!

I have been sewing quite a bit this week and finishing things. I have finished 7 tote bags and I am working furiously on the Competition Ribbon quilt. That was the only purchase this week for the backing. I am hoping to get quilt ready for machine quilting later this evening. Our family get together was canceled due impending inclement weather. I do not start my new job until Wednesday and I am looking forward to hours of sewing time. This quilt and one other queen sized quilt to finish for Christmas.

Not much sewing going on here. The sewing machine is put away for the upcoming holiday. I am hosting 17 people and I need to focus on cooking and cleaning. I do have a hand piecing project I started this past week but until it is finished and bound I will not count it.

This week is a bit better than past weeks. I did some sewing and also bought some fabric. I am making totes for the gals at work as they leave the department. I have 4 almost done and I bought fabric for one special tote. The gal who sat next to me in the other bldg likes purple and yellow and I found some awesome yellows and purples at JoAnn's on Saturday and they came home with me!!

When I started stash busting I would not subtract the fabric used until the project was completed. Now I wish I used a different system. I have been sewing and cutting all weekend but nothing is completed so nothing is being subtracted. I had to make a quick trip to JoAnn's this morning to get a yard of flannel for my flannel quilt. I also found a fabric that I "needed" and I brought home  1/2 yard of it. I also brought home a piece of Warm and Natural for my tote bags. Check here to see what is going at Patchwork Times.

The weekend is over

It is Sunday night and the weekend is over. How much did you get done. It has been an interesting weekend. On Friday, we were told that effective 2/1/2011 we will not have jobs. That was a horrible way to start a weekend. I did get some quilting done and the baby quilt is done!! I got some cutting done for my flannel quilt and went to a quilt show today.

I had such plans for my stash report this week. I so wanted to finish the baby quilt for the shower today, but life happens when you have other plans. I ended up with a nasty head cold and that stopped my sewing altogether. And then we got busy again at work and the mandatory is back!!!! Ten hours a week until they say it is over.

Christmas is coming and I went out yesterday and bought fabric for a rag quilt that I wanted to make for my nephew. I am off by 1/3 of a yard to have enough to complete the quilt. I have been sewing but until I completely finish something I do not count it. That makes me accountable to finish things!!!

Trying to pass this kidney stone has helped my stash report. I am not getting out to buy fabric and that is good. I am also not sewing because I am in too much pain. That is the down side of the kidney stone. I am getting bits of things done in the sewing room. I have stuff to move out of the sewing room closet in order to convert it to my home office. There is a big chance I will soon be working from home!!! The car purchase is on hold for right now.
